ONE MORE MINUTE
Treyan Porter

Her eyes were heavy, and a little yawn
He smiled and said, “It’s bedtime, little one”
One story, one song, and then he tucked her in
“I love you darlin’, time to dream again”
“One more minute, Daddy,” she said
“One more minute, then I’ll go to bed
One more story while I close my eyes
One more song of hush-a-baby don’t cry”
And she said

     One more minute
     One more minute
Just stay here one more minute
     One more minute

A boy saw a young lady at the picture show
He didn’t remember much of the movie though
But he introduced himself, she thought he was cute
He seemed so nervous saying, “How do you do?”
And they got to talking as the crowds went by
The usher came to say, “It’s closing time”
And the boy said, “One more minute, kindly man
I just barely got to hold her hand”
He said please

     One more minute
     One more minute
Just give me one more minute
     One more minute

All the memories from the babe’s cry to the tired old sigh
They all seem but a moment in time
When you close your eyes, and wake up, another year gone by
See how we’re counting away our lives

They hear Grandpa’s dying, doesn’t have much time
The family gathers round to say goodbye
From his bed he calls them, everyone
And leaves his blessing, then before he’s done
He says, “One more whisper, one hushed goodbye
One more minute Lord and then I’ll die
One more hug from everyone in the room
One more tear and then I’ll see you all soon”
Cause life is

     One more minute
     One more minute
This life is one more minute
     One more minute

All I want is
All I need is
All I ask is
So all I get is
All my life is
All I see is
So Lord help me
One more minute

One more minute
One more minute
